Jumping Your Way To Better Starts & Turns

What is a start or a turn- but a jump from the wall or the block?

Jumping farther off the block or increasing your jump/push off the wall will maximize your breakouts & help you improve your performance down the lane.

Strengthening Your Hip Flexor

Why is improving hip Flexor Flexibility so critical in vertical jump performance? When contracted, or shortened, the hip flexors pull the femur up towards the torso, and when we perform a vertical jump we generate power through our legs and hips. Lacking flexibility in your hip flexors will actually slow the jumping movement by preventing the powerful hip extensors (glutes & hamstrings) from functioning maximally. In other words you tighten up! Full hip extension is necessary to maximize speed through essentially all explosive movements from a standing position- such as starts and turns.
